Abstract
Objectives: To verify the significance of and the correlation between cognitive evoked potential and Obsessive Compulsive Drinking Scale (OCDS) in alcohol dependent patients.

Methods: The subjects of this study were 25 alcohol-dependent patients whose medical history did not contain dementia or auditory abnormality. As cognitive evoked potential study, P300 studies using an auditory paradigm were performed, and Korean Version of Obsessive Compulsive Drinking Scale was scored in these subjects. We compared P300 latency with score of OCDS. P300 latency and total amount of ethanol ingestion were compared.

Results: There was significant positive correlation between P300 latency and score of OCDS (p<0.05,r=0.804). There was no significant correlation between P300 latency and total amount of ethanol ingestion (p>0.05).

Conclusion: These findings suggest that cognitive evoked potential is objective clinical electrodiagnostic measures which can reflect characteristic drinking behavior in alcohol dependent patients.
